Lisa is very pleased to announce the debut of Maremma Magic!
Lisa first came to Maremma in search of the legendary butteri cowboys of the West Country, the oldest cowboys in Western Civilization, tracing back to 6,000 B.C. In 1890, when Buffalo Bill Cody came over to Italy with his Wild West show, he learned of the legendary butteri cowboys and , while in Napoli, challenged them to Ia sfida (contest) to see who could break three wild colts. Buffalo Bill ordered a stop to the la sfida, seeing quickly that the Italian cowboys had superior techniques. Bill Cody never conceded, but the victory claimed by the butteri is today still a source of great pride.
Their wranglin' skills and Slow Food way of life have made the butteri a national treasure. Theirs is a true Slow Food culture. A culture that is fading from the Tuscan landscape. We will spend a day with them learning their history, habits and have a chance to ask our own questions of them. I butteri work with the rare Maremma breeds of animals: cattle, horses and working dogs, all dating back to 2,000 years ago.
And there's a second reason Lisa came to Maremma: to experience the whimsy and color of a vast outdoor sculpture garden. The Giardino dei Tarocchi is the vision of French woman artist Niki de Saint Phalle. For twenty years, Niki worked with her assistants sculpting twenty-two monstrous ceramic and mirrored mosaic figures that represent the Major Arcana of Tarot. Rediscover a childlike fancy as you frolic in, on, around and under these wondrous figures that occupy the fields above Etruscan ruins . This is one of the most delightful adventures you will ever experience.

During our stay,
